Hi Reader! I was reading an APA resource this week about homeschooling and the section on high school stood out to me. It described the high school years as a time when students want purpose and agency. They want to make an impact. They often propose ideas that feel idealistic or unrealistic, but those ideas matter deeply to them. I've seen this in my own kids. The article goes on to say that without strong problem-solving and social skills, teens are likely to struggle in postsecondary education or career settings. Not just academics. Problem solving. Those are life skills. The APA outlines what homeschooling can look like when it works well in high school. It includes: • Supportive relationships with high but realistic expectations High school is not only about credits and transcripts. It is about preparing a young person to navigate real life with confidence and skill. I love that we get to cultivate all of this alongside our teens through homeschooling! If you’re homeschooling through high school, or preparing to, I think you’ll appreciate the APA article itself. You can read it here: As the Leadership Life Skills Summit begins Monday, I keep thinking about how many of these skills are woven into the conversations we’ll be having. The sessions focus on the practical learning and skills that support success beyond academics: Emotional regulation These are the skills that allow a teen to take their academic preparation and actually apply it in college, work, and relationships. And if you want support in teaching and strengthening these skills, the summit is a meaningful place to learn. I’ll be teaching: If lifetime access would allow you to revisit sessions and process them at your own pace, the VIP Pass is available as well. I’m also including my Building Confidence in Your Tween & Teen Masterclass for those who upgrade. You can explore the summit here: High school can feel high pressure. But when we keep the focus on life skills and relationship, we prepare our teens for more than graduation. We prepare them for adulthood. Warmly, P.S. You can absolutely attend with the Free Pass. The VIP option is simply there if lifetime access and the bonus support would serve your family |

Hi Reader! You know the phrase we as homeschoolers hear all the time, “It all counts as learning.” (and I often say!) It’s comforting. But sometimes it can feel a little vague. Does it all count? And how? I want to be clear. Unstructured play absolutely has a place. Free exploration, boredom, imagination, tinkering without an agenda. That matters deeply. What this research article from the University of Cambridge helped me understand is something slightly different. It looks at guided play...
