What veteran homeschool moms taught me

Hi Reader! When I first started homeschooling, some of the voices I needed most weren’t the ones telling me what curriculum to buy or how to organize our day. They were the homeschool moms who were farther down the road than I was. The ones who had made it through the hard seasons. Who had changed course when something wasn’t working. Who had questioned themselves, learned from mistakes, and discovered along the way what really mattered. Their words carried me through some of my hardest homeschool days. And just as importantly, they gave me something to look forward to. I could look at these moms with their older teens and adult children and see the relationships they had built. I could hear them talk about the things they worried about when their kids were younger and realize that maybe I didn’t have to carry quite so much fear about getting everything right. Sometimes you just need the perspective of someone who is a little farther down the road. That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to be part of Been There, Homeschooled That, a free online summit happening September 1–3. It brings together homeschool parents who have lived through the messy middle, the second-guessing, the changing seasons, the teen years, and the questions about what comes next. And now, after all these years of homeschooling, I get to be one of those voices. I’ll be sharing Don't Be School-ish: Breaking Free from the School at Home Mindset and some of the perspective I’ve gained from the years when homeschooling was beautiful, the years when it was really hard, and everything in between.
