Hi Reader!
As we heard in our recent conversation with Dan Marcone, LMHC, on Rethinking Independence, independence is not something kids or teens suddenly achieve. It develops through the life skills they practice every day. Skills like communicating clearly, managing responsibility, handling feedback, and staying connected in relationships while growing more capable. These are the building blocks of independence, and they are learned in real moments between parents and teens. That focus on life skills continues to guide the work I do with families. I was recently invited to be part of a free online event created for homeschool families who want to be intentional about teaching these kinds of skills alongside academics. It is called the Leadership Life Skills Summit, and it brings together experienced homeschool educators and mentors who are committed to helping teens build skills they can carry into adulthood, including communication, leadership, responsibility, and self advocacy. I'm participating in this event because it supports the kind of growth we have been talking about. I will be teaching two workshops, one for parents and one for teens, so both sides of the relationship are supported. For parents: For teens: What I appreciate about this summit is its emphasis on practical, teachable life skills that families can practice together, not just ideas to think about. The event is completely free, and families can attend live or watch the replays at their own pace. If you would like to join me, you can request your free ticket here: This is simply an invitation to continue building the life skills that support independence over time.
