When Your Curriculum Just Isn't Working 📚(It's Not You - Or Your Child)

Hi Reader!

Ever find yourself sitting with a curriculum that seemed perfect...until it wasn't?

I've been there too many times to count. With my daughter's dyslexia and my son's ADHD, what worked on paper rarely worked in real life.

Here's what I finally learned: When a curriculum isn't clicking, it's not a failure of your teaching or your child's ability. It's simply a mismatch between the material and how your child's brain works best.

The traditional approach says "make your child adapt to the curriculum." But that's backward!

The real magic happens when we flip that thinking: adapt the curriculum to how your child naturally learns.

My son couldn't sit still for textbook learning. But give him hands-on projects? He'd dive in for hours. My daughter struggled with written instructions but thrived with visual supports and chunking assignments down.

We're not looking for perfect learning. We're looking for learning that fits.

Try This Today: Take one difficult subject and change just ONE element. If reading is tough, try taking turns reading or using an audiobook. If worksheets cause meltdowns, use manipulatives or draw the concepts on a dry erase board. If writing is overwhelming, let them record their thoughts instead.

Small adaptations can create big breakthroughs. You don't need to overhaul everything at once.

Remember: Your child's different learning style isn't wrong – it's unique. And your willingness to adapt isn't giving in – it's meeting them where they are so they can grow from there.

You've got this!
